How will peak oil affect society and government? Is that too off-topic? Some people claim peak oil is, in itself, a conspiracy. Some say it's being used to jack up oil and gas prices. Others say it's being used to jack up the stock prices of alternative fuel related companies. I say it's a reality. I can't say exactly when it'll occur but it does look like it'll be much sooner rather than later. I also say the government knows it's coming and they also know there's damn little they can do about it except to invade countries like Iraq and devise controls over society that would be unthinkable in a world with abundant cheap energy. Is any of the above really off topic? I see nothing on the thread where people are arguing whether or not the rightwingers are all criminals and fascists or that the leftwingers are all idiots and communists so there's been no "political arguments".
