Sorry, I was responding to the "PC" part of the argument. It's one of my bugaboos, and I should just let it drop, but every so often it just gets to me.
We can all agree on black and white, it's the gray parts we argue about. Calling something "politically correct" or "politically incorrect," to me, doesn't carry any content.
I don't buy into the countervailing arguments, either, like "marriage is rape," "patriarchy is oppression," "white males are the source of all evil."
I HATE USING SLOGANS instead of taking the time and making the effort to say what you actually mean!
As for kids in school -- personally, I think keeping them in high school until they're 18 is stupid. Just warehousing them, keeping them out of the work force. Good for labor unions, reduces cheap competition, good for the teacher's unions, keeps them in full employment.
My suggestion -- do it like college. They've got x number of credits they need to earn to get a HS degree, and they can do it slow, or they can do it fast. If they want to carry an extra load and go to summer school and finish at 16, let them do it. If they want to work part time and go to school part time, let them do it. If they can test out, let them do it. |
