We thought we were pretty unique in keeping separate accounts.

No, as I said, I've seen it a lot in divorce cases, and they tend to cause a lot of resentment unless the couple are both good earners and don't have kids.

Once the wife has kids, has to stay home and do more around the home, she feels like she's giving a lot but what she gives is not appreciated because you can't put a dollar value on it.

It's hard to juggle marriage, money and kids. Just keep those lines of communication open. Y'all seem to have a good relationship so if it works for you, great.
