Hey Craig,

Boy, I've never seen the FC threads so quiet. The calm before the storm?

No matter how you package it, SOS (and I'll refrain from any cheap jokes at their misfortunate symbol) is selling Network Attached Virtual Storage Area Networks and within their proprietary Virtual SAN they don' need no stinkin' switches. So you can junk all the RAID arrays you got scattered all over the joint. Right. It might be a good way to start from scratch though - in fact, string two or more of them across a campus and then you can loop them onto a fabric.<g> Really, Marketing guys shouldn't be allowed to concoct, edit, and publish their own stuff without technical oversight.

storage.com

Without the hype, it's a viable product. They co-developed NDMP with NTAP and signed an OEM agreement with Intelliguard (of Celestra Serverless Backup fame) which got bought out by Legato, so they probably are standards compliant (or will be) as far as manageability.
Don't see why they shouldn't sell, unless their Marketing is irrational. ;^
