You must be joking. Mytec has done nothing to influence standards and has no effective means of distribution.
Let's start with standards. The closest Mytec ever came to being in a position to influence a standard was its deal with Compaq. That might have gone a long way to influencing a standard, but Compaq blew them off. Mytec used the deal to spike the stock price so that insiders could bail and from there the success trail went dead.
Mytec used to have optical technology which if proven to be effective, could have influenced a standard, but it was too costly, so now they're digital like everyone else.
Mytec used to promote the concept of privacy, which also could have influenced a standard, but alas, no one in the real world really gives a shit about privacy, though it's intellectually stimulating to talk about it.
Finally, Mytec has talked about biometric encryption for years, but has anyone ever seen it? Does anyone want it? Does it have enough value to be meaningful? If it's proprietary to Mytec, could it ever even be a standard?
Don't talk to me about standards. Mytec is nowhere to be found in this arena.
Next let's deal with distribution. Mytec doesn't fool me with the glamour of a few offshore distributors. If the stuff worked they'd be selling it by the boatload into the North American markets. Who cares if someone in Korea or an eastern bloc country negotiate local distribution rights? These are widget distributors, not technology leaders.
For Mytec to influence standards it must be distributing technology to OEMs (like Compaq). Mytec doesn't have the resources to market properly, let alone manufacture volumes of product at low cost. They will soon go head to head with Sony. If you were a purchasing agent, which unit would you buy? Would you really put your dick on the line to buy from an under-financed startup? I doubt it.
Mytec either has technology that is attractive to the major OEMs or it doesn't. That's the only real question. Everything else is window dressing. Without OEMs, there is no chance to influence a standard or to distribute volume. What has Grecco said or done to advance this effort? Nothing that he has ever made public.
You're right, that Microsoft understands this concept. For a while Mytec did too. That's why they went after Compaq. My only hope is that they really do have life saving technology that an OEM will buy. So far I haven't seen it.
I don't expect Grecco to ride in on a white horse and save the day. The fact is though, he's now been here 10 months (not 4 months as you reported) and Mytec has not made any progress in the market. I don't expect miracles, but when he conservatively estimates that he will sell 1,000 units and at the half way mark he is at 5% of quota, I worry. So should you.
