Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA will go ahead with plans to build the proposed US$2.7bn Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho industrial complex (Cigma) in Sucre state, the company said in a statement.

The complex will include a 1 billion cubic feet of gas a day (bcf/d) capacity liquefaction plant that will receive natural gas from the offshore Deltana and Mariscal Sucre projects, and produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export to the US.

The first phase of the project will require US$300mn investment and will start up in 2008, PDVSA's Cigma project manager Domingo Rodriguez Polanco said.

Construction of the facilities will provide 1,000 jobs, the statement said.
