FT shows abysmal ignorance:

06/18/98 AT&T/AOL: The logical package?
Financial Times
AT&T WorldNet, with inferior infrastructure, faces new competition from MCI and Sprint ventures. AOL is the obvious quick-fix.

ft.com

Triple Duh!!

- Worldnet's infrastructure is AT&T

- AOL doesn't own any telecom infrastructure

- MCI already has agreed to sell its backbone business and
is being forced by the European Commission to sell the rest
of its Internet business in order to merge with Worldcom

And by the way, the $32 billion price reported by FT is just
13% less than WCOM is paying for MCI!
