I was reading the NYTimes article on Bush out of step with Americans in the header to SI. As you know, I distrust ANYTHING pubished in the NY TIMES as they are so BIASED against Bush and any conservative agenda. This paragraph in the article really bothers me:
Notwithstanding Mr. Bush's argument that citizens should be given more control over their retirement savings, almost four out of five respondents said it was the government's responsibility to assure a decent standard of living for the elderly.
If that is true in general across the nation we are headed for BIG PROBLEMS. When people refuse to admit it is THEIR responsibility to look after themselves, not someone elses this represents such a weakness of character that all Freedom eventually will be lost.
Yes, government should be there to help the fallen when in need but NOONE should ever give up on THEIR responsibilities. jdn
