The real issue is it may become illegal to wash your own car with the water shortage and possible run-off into the bay. What will that mean for the "working folks" who might not want to spend two hour's after tax pay to have a clean car?
I have heard that some in California, even have elevators for their cars. (Now where would I have heard that?).
From me... One of my new neighbors had one put in. They wanted to live here but only have 1/4 acre to work with so they went under ground to get a massive house (probably 5K sq ft) on a lot you can only build 3300 sq ft on by code if above ground. Not as obscene as Zuck in Palo Alto buying the homes from his neighbors for 2x or 3x ($4M to $6M) what they are worth so they won't sell to someone who wants to build two story homes and peer into his yard.

Anyway, real inflation won't hurt the super rich... never does. It hurts the working folks who can't make investments that outperform inflation like some of us do with our investments to have wonderful lifestyles without being super rich.

As for distorted values, you otta see all the money they raise for charity here as well as pledge to charity after they die. One reason land is so expensive here is much is donated to the public trust for open space... and others contribute money to buy up land that comes on the market.
