I equivocate on this issue. I can appreciate when one's own family is involved as yours was that justice means inflicting the worst punishment one could have.

Then I study the number of arrests that were trumped up charges and death penalty that were error. Additionally the horror of some of these such as the electric chair.

There is a group (at the University of Chicago or Northwestern University) that has a students in charge of researching the
old evidence in trials, (if a prisoner writes to them protesting his
innocence). They have uncovered so many innocent men on death row that I find myself saying no to the death penalty too.

DNA is responsible for over turning evidence. It was not around years ago.. Look at O.J.....
DNA was new then and they proved it was tainted. I don't think that is the case anymore.

And in response to your question about homes. I think it applies to new home buyers only.
