I'm sorry to have to report this but IDEC's RA program just took it in the teeth. Good luck to all.

LONDON, June 24 (Reuter) - Britain's SmithKline Beecham Plc
said on Tuesday it had suspended Phase III tests of its IDEC-CE9.1/SB-210396 treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.

In a joint statement with U.S. group IDEC Pharmaceuticals Corp , SmithKline said the decision was based on observations of lowered CD4 cell courts in a higher number of treated patients in the Phase III study compared to the Phase II trial.

LONDON, June 24 (Reuter) - Shares in SmithKline Beecham fell on Tuesday following news that the company had suspended late stage clinical trials of a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.

The shares fell 11-1/2p to 10.56 stg shortly after the announcement.

In a joint statement with U.S. group IDEC Pharmaceuticals Corp , SmithKline said the decision was based on lowered CD4 cell counts in a higher number of treated patients in the Phase III stage compared to Phase II.

But the companies added that they remain committed to the development of an antibody for rheumatoid arthritis and that a second drug was currently in Phase II trials.

The pharmaceutical team at ABN Amro Hoare Govett said they did not expect the shares to react violently on the news. "Obviously when trials are suspended it is not a positive piece of news, but they do have a follow-up already in Phase II," one of the analysts said.
