For small or medium database use, SQL has the following advantages, among others:
-less expensive
-better replication
-easier to administer
-smaller footprint
-uses memory more effectively
-tight integration with a wide variety of application tools

I like Oracle fine for large systems, it has advantages in scaling which help with large tables, and some of the remote capabilities are great for large distributed data. In today's world, Oracle wins in the enterprise. But for a small or medium sized application SQL has more advantages and fewer disadvantages. I have worked with both products extensively. I was pointing out the advantages of SQL over Access for real database work, but I would be glad to go a little deeper on the appropriate markets for SQL vs. Oracle if it won't bore the thread.
