I doubt AMD would have said "10s of thousands" if 90K K8s were sold (the Inquirer number). I'll bet they were production estimates -- AMD made 90K K8s in Q3, but since most of the production was at the end of the quarter not all of them could be sold before 9/28.

The same may be true of the Inq's K7 number. It makes sense that AMD would tell the motherboard makers the maximum possible sales for the quarter, because they absolutely don't want any CPUs not being sold for lack of motherboards.
