Defrocked: I find it difficult with your well outlined arguments. Reading these arguments would lead me to forecast a continuation of the bear market that started around September. I view this small frolickoing to new highs if the Dow join the S&P as a relief rally. The situation in the rim is such that many plans on the table to continue expansion in the semi business will be cancelled. Dongbu (check my spelling on this one) has alreadu tabled a $2 B. joint venture, other will follow. Samsung is making drastic staff reduction at AST and they will probably find that their expansion plans will be heard by unsympathetic ears at their local and international bankers.

There are always gooing to be countertrend exceptions, and the fact that recently food companies, utilities and other basic staples (my favorite drug company MRK) are making or going to shortly make new highs jusat indicates how defensive this market is becoming.

The only strategy I may disagree with is selling your leaps by May, I would sell them much earlier than that since I think these will be available again at better price late this winter or very early spring (for yet another bearmarket rally).
