I agreed with what, that I am now arguing?

Your comments about the electoral collage?

I agreed that it is less then ideal and that if I was setting up the system today I wouldn't include it. That doesn't mean I think it has much chance of going away or even that it is a big issue for me.

Or do you mean that "land does not vote". Sure I agreed with that and still do but that never was a real issue. Land doesn't vote but it is important.

WV voted to stay 'cause most people voted to stay. This is not a hard concept and has nothing to do with land.

WV is a certain territory. It controlled a certain amount of land. The people on that land decided to stay part of the union so the land remained union territory. The area that remained union was a certain amount of land, and the vote was based on the people that lived on that area of land, not some random group distributed across VA or the country.

Most of the people in Upstate NY, Western PA, and Eastern CA and OR voted for Bush. Assuming that Bush voters would oppose leaving just because Bush got elected the people in those areas would also decide to stay part of the Union and like WV they might take their territory with them.

Land is a big issue in any secession, as those who leave are taking the land with them. The number of blues is larger than the number of reds in CA, NY, OR and just barely in PA, but most of their territory would be effectively controlled by reds. The blues might have the numbers to push the reds out but it wouldn't be simple.
