Makes me wonder whether AMD was capable of manufacturing 2M Athlons, but sacrificed yields in order to get to 1 GHz. (As usual, correct me if I'm way out of line here.)

We really don't know how many Athlons were made last quarter, but your theory sounds quite within the realm of possibility.
