Ericsson and Memotec(R) Enter Into Global Partnership -
Ericsson to co-Market Memotec's CX Series of Data, Voice
and Video Convergence Solutions

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Ericsson and Memotec Communications Inc.
(Memotec) today announced a strategic global alliance agreement
under which Ericsson's Enterprise Systems Unit will co-market
Memotec's CX Series of Frame Relay access solutions with support
for data, voice and video through its worldwide subsidiary
organizations and distribution networks, spanning over 130
countries. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Ericsson's enterprise systems product line is complemented by
Memotec's CX Series as Memotec's solutions provide Ericsson's
product line with augmented data, voice and video convergence
technologies, enabling Ericsson to expand their addressable
markets and explore emerging opportunities.
"We are enthusiastic to be working with Memotec," said Lars
Svensson, vice president and general manager of Ericsson's
Enterprise Systems Unit. "The synergy between the two companies
secures a solid infrastructure for an agreement of this kind.
Both Ericsson and Memotec are committed to providing enterprise
customers with cost-effective, end-to-end solutions for converging
data, voice and video networks."
"The Ericsson/Memotec partnership validates our data, voice and
video integration technology. We expect this agreement to have a
significant impact on revenues in the second half of 1999," stated
Henry David Epstein, Memotec's president and CEO.
"The agreement is mutually strategic," added Anthony S. Wiley,
vice president Sales and Marketing at Memotec. "Ericsson's
leadership role in the telecommunications arena, combined with
Memotec's award-winning data, voice and video convergence
solutions, will provide an expanded international customer base
with unprecedented access to fully integrated, enterprise
solutions with lower cost of ownership."
Ericsson is now able to offer to the market seamless
transportation of total PBX functionality and related services -
represented by the MD110 and Business Phone - over Frame Relay
networks. Memotec's CX Series access solutions integrate with
Ericsson's voice platforms (MD110 and Business Phone) to provide
enterprise customers with a complete unified infrastructure.
Using evolving technologies Memotec's CX Series of multiservice
access switches will enable the convergence of data, voice and
video over packet- based and emerging cell-based networks for
branch, regional and central sites. Memotec's solutions provide
single-platform consolidation of all network capabilities -
including voice, fax, LAN/WAN, SNA and legacy traffic - over Frame
Relay, IP and ATM.
