GE Power Systems Opens Atlanta Customer Service Center; Announces $75,000 in Grants to Atlanta Community Groups
ATLANTA, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Roy Barnes and Senator Sam Nunn today joined GE Power Systems -- a $9.5 billion unit of the General Electric (NYSE: GE - news) company and one of the world's largest suppliers of power generation technology, services and energy management systems -- in celebrating the opening of its Global Customer Service Center at GE's Wildwood Parkway facility in Marietta. Robert L. Nardelli, President and CEO of GE Power Systems, and Ricardo Artigas, Vice President of GE Energy Services, presided over the festivities, which included other state and community leaders and GE employees.
The celebration showcased the state-of-the-art facility which serves as the single point of contact for GE's global energy customers, including ``smart' monitoring and diagnostic technology that links more than 120 power plants in 22 countries directly to Atlanta. The celebration also highlighted GE Power System's growing local presence, which includes the headquarters of its global services, sales, and e-business organizations, and 1,000 employees by year-end.
Nardelli also today announced two new GE Fund grants. The first, $50,000 to Hands on Atlanta Youth Corp, carries the GE Funds support of this program through 2001. GE and the GE Funds have provided both volunteers and $100,000 in additional funding over the last four years. The second, a $25,000 grant to the Alliance Theater's Arts for Literacy Program, continues the GE Fund's support for the Theater which began with a $50,000 grant in 1997.

The GE Fund is a catalyst for advancing the education and well-being of men, women and children around the world and is the principal vehicle for the GE Company's philanthropy. GE Fund and GE businesses have contributed $1.2 million to metro-Atlanta non-profit organizations since 1997.
