I am shocked....shocked that you believe anything in the NYT.

Here is the primary lie in the article you are quoting.

During 2002, the most recent year for which comparable figures are available, some 586,000 foreign students were enrolled in United States universities

2002 is the year following 2001. In case you didn't know, beginning in 2002 all forms of immigrants were closely examined and monitored and there have been substantial delays in granting all visas.Even so enrollment was up that year.

I did find one thing to really be happy about. The NYT had to go back two years to find something negative to say about America. And it had to be that specific year. If they went back any further, they would have had to tell us that foreign enrollment was up in the years 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, and 1998. And it was up for each of the 16 years prior and it was up 1% in 2002/03.

Googling around, I found one article that says it is the first drop in 32 years.

Foreign Enrollments at American Universities Drop for the First Time in 32 Years
The Chronicle of Higher Education (sub. req.)
chronicle.com

So now we have one year with a 2% decine and the NYT and you want us to think the sky is falling.

I don't really know anything about this subject. But I have enjoyed looking at it, just to see how the NYT continues to search out any shred of bad news and then portrays it in the worst possible light.

What I find most shocking is how many smart folks like you continue to get bamboozled by them.

Here is the real story of importance. African American, Native American and Asian American enrollment at universities continues to set records.

Let us know when the NYT prints that story.
