One of the biggest crunches for libraries is the soaring costs of publications and periodicals, and in the last decade or so many have been trying to go electronic to reduce costs. The "digital library" hasn't happened, largely because there isn't a standard venue or model for distribution. Google is a great answer. It's universal, and open. The only downside is for the dozens of services that cost libraries a load of cash to license their electronic collections, and cultural xenophobes like the French. Derek
