Fitzgerald went after the easier perjury charge. Just like the Feds charged Al Capone with tax evasion. It saved time. In order to prove treason Fitzgerald would have had to prove deliberate malice in order to destroy a CIA agent's career. The motive behind Cheney-Rove's outing of Plame was actually to punish Wilson by attacking his wife, not to destroy Plame's career. I don't think they realized what an important covert agent she was, on the Iranian WMD's programs.

DOn't assume Rove and Cheney are out of harm's way on this. There is a lot of talking about going after them. They were not at all innocent. Libby worked directly for Cheney afterall.
