AP Slants News Against U.N. Ambassador Nominee bobkohn.blogspot.com By Bob Kohn
The New York Times is not the only MSM outlet who slants the news against decisions by the Bush administration. Here's how AP reporter Barry Schweid (or his editors) relayed today's announcement by President Bush:
Bush Selects Bolton As New U.N. Ambassador
By BARRY SCHWEID, AP Diplomatic Writer
WASHINGTON - Undersecretary of State John R. Bolton, whose strong statements on North Korea's nuclear program irked the leaders in Pyongyang, is President Bush's choice to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, three government officials said Monday.
AP continued their bold attack on the President and his appointee in the next two paragraphs of the article:
Bush, already viewed suspiciously in some sectors of the United Nations for his pre-emptive attack in 2003 on Iraq, reached out to a tough lawyer and arms control expert who rarely muffles his views in diplomatic nuance.
Last month, for instance, in a strongly worded speech in Tokyo, Bolton lashed out at China before an international audience for not stopping its munitions companies from selling missile technology to Iran and other nations the United States considers rogue states. He also took the lead in strongly opposing plans of European allies to lift an 15-year embargo and sell weapons to Beijing.
You can't read through this article without thinking that Bolton is the primary reason why talks with North Korea have stalled and that this was, at best, a curious appointment. Yet, the reporter quotes no one who has anything bad (or good) to say about Bolton; the article is made up entirely of the reporter's conjecture. In other words, it reads more like an opinion column than a news article. And that's what wrong with the MSM today. |
