A portion of my holiday reading included three other Lightreading articles involving optical hardware entitled:
"Optical Switching Fabric" (http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=2254),

"Metro Optical Ethernet"
(http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=2472), and

and "Optical Train Wreck?"

I would like to also draw everybodies attention to an Epoch treatise of the entire network dial tone to dial tone.

For those of us who are telecom optically challenged, the first, second and fourth articles are some fine educational information.

I find it hard to accept a turndown when fiber capacity is tight. The only cause for a component turndown in my simplistist understanding would the the lack of new cable to attach it to. I remain torn by GTW and LU being sold out of fiber capacity 16 months forward. That article was found on ZDnet News, date Oct 29 by Bill Scanlon of Interactive Week. Do I need to say my printed link is too long to print properly.

Certainly there is plenty of legacy hardware on existing fiber that would be replaced with more effective AMCC hardware.

Ray you might want to review the third article and comment.

Can anybody point to readings or ways to resolve the build-out consequence dilemma for AMCC?
