I disdained what the article articulated. The choices available after the invasion and occupation are daunting, nebulous and unrewarding. THese things should have been communicated in addition to the sensationalist charges made during the run up of the war.
A false perception about the results of the invasion, occupation of Iraq (aka disarmament/regime change) was conveyed to the AMerican people. THis is why we are experiencing failure in the hearts and minds of the Iraqis and have no exit strategy. THe Objective was dishonestly portrayed.THe outcome, in their own words, was apparently unknowable.THe jingoism which passed for information was unhelpful.
THere is a concept called "selective perception" which accounts for 2 individuals arriving at different conclusions when observing the same fact pattern. Perhaps we may use this to explain our differences. It is a more polite and thoughtful explanation than your cheap shot.
Selective Perception: An Introduction
You're a twelve-year-old boy and a Britney Spears' Pepsi commercial has just come on the television. Your mother is in the middle of asking you whether or not you've fed the dogs and clarifying that Charger, the fat dog, needs less food than George, the other dog. You were listening to her just fine a moment ago. But, suddenly, something's changed; Britney's arrived on the scene.
Meanwhile, your mother continues to talk because, in her world, while there may be a Britney Spears, there's not room for one at this moment. In your mother's mind there's only room for hungry dogs who need to be fed now and a 12-year-old boy who needs feeding soon
