I got invited to go to the Chicago protests by friends who attended. I'm not unhappy that I missed the event. They thought it was a bloody awful police riot. There is no question but what the police acted as thugs.

After the dramatic escalation of vicious police violence at the FTAA protests in Miami, many stalwart and brave protestors, including some of my friends who were abused there, are reconsidering the methods of direct action that we have available.

Most observers consider Miami to have been the tipping point into the true maelstrom of police criminality.

I can only imagine that New York will be worse, with the iron boot of full fascist repression coming down on free expression and dissent. I may go, as witness to the end of democracy in America.
