We need big business behind the push for universal healthcare for it to succeed. Big business is so powerful on Capitol Hill nowadays that it's nearly impossible for a major bill to clear without their backing. I think big business is coming around to the reality that health care is costing them too much on the bottom line and puts them at a competitive disadvantage compared to other industrialized countries. Canada actually wins business contracts and new plant building initiatives because their healthcare costs are more reasonable and predictable. It should be noted that several states have or are moving towards a form of universal healthcare. The trend is going in that direction for a change.
