Who paid for the original invitro of the six children? Would she have had this current multiple birth if she knew she was going to have to pay for their delivery and hospitalization?

Good points. I'm assuming some sort of private means paid for all the births and then the state has to pick up the subsequent support tag via medicaid, etc..

If you're right, the state paid for that and she would not have done it had she been forced to pay for it, then support for that part is a different matter.

If I can sort this out, my own views are that (1) the state should not decide who can have children, that's a woman's right (note that means I'm pro choice on the abortion score); (2) women don't have a subsidized right to fertility treatments (I don't think medicaid pays for that at the moment, so I'm not certain we are debating an existing policy) but this case is hardly the one to debate that issue about.

Until I know more, I'm assuming the fertility treatments were paid for by private means. But, again, this case is certainly not one that's good for policy templates.
