Greetings to all:

I just joined SI a few days ago. I am largely impressed with the threads and postings I have read. I have been reading nearly non-stop for 3 days. I have read over 4000 posts and have made many side excursions.

Talk about reading till your eyes are bleeding. I think I need a transfusion.

You folks are doing some fine work here. I and the rest of the newbies will benefit greatly from your experiences and wisdom.

I trade from my computer at home and have no ties with any trading groups whatsoever. I execute any where from 5 to 50 trades a day .I started with E-Schwab when they first came online (seems like that was some time in 1996). I found their service, in all aspects, was competent and efficient. However it is too expensive and slow. Changing between accounts and entering trades is slow as molasses compared to Datek. Of course my approach is not reliant upon scalping 16ths. I trade intra-day and swing 1-3 days.

I moved my main trading account and two others to Datek. I have been with them since Oct 1998. I am very satisfied. There have been two occasions when I had difficulty accessing my account in the past nine months. One incident did cost me considerably because I could not get in to close a position. While this is not acceptable as an ongoing practice, given the nature of the net (and computers) I try to build in some leeway for unexpected happenings. Datek's portfolio updates and trades by and large appear to be very fast.

Datek's phone lines, can at very busy times, be hard to get through. However I have had very few reasons to call. I have never traded over the phone. When I do call 85-90% of the time I get right through(1-2 rings) and the people know what they are talking about. They have never messed up my account or screwed up a single trade of mine. All trades have been executed as specified by me and have been posted correctly to my account. I do love the immediate updates of my positions and all my balances. I never have to wonder, or calculate in any other manner, how much I have available for my next trade. All your account transactions can be directly downloaded into Quicken 99.

For those of you who might think this is a recommendation or plug for Datek - it's not. It's just my personal experience. The regular posters on this site definitely outrank me. Keep in mind I have been reading for about 20 hours straight. When I wake up, I may have to retract this posting.

Well that should be all for now. I am a deep lurker, so it's back to the mud for me.
