Mitch McConnell Picks a Side After Pelosi
and Schumer Cancel on Trump—And
Democrats Won´t Be Happy

Independent Journal Review, by Justin Charters

On Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump announced he was going to meet with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).The president tweeted: (Tweet) Then, Pelosi and Schumer decided to cancel their meeting with Trump. As reported by Independent Journal Review:“Given that the president doesn’t see a deal between Democrats and the White House, we believe the best path forward is to continue negotiating with our Republican counterparts in Congress instead," Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement Tuesday. The Democratic leaders said they asked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to meet in lieu of their meeting with the president. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) decided to make a public statement about the abrupt cancellation of the meeting. And he didn't mince words.

McConnell said:

"I never refused to go to a meeting that President Obama called, a bipartisan meeting. It never occurred to me that I could just say ... 'I'm not showing up.'

That strikes me as a lack of seriousness about the matter before us, which is the funding of the federal government of the United States for the rest of this fiscal year.

So you'll have to ask them why they think it's appropriate to refuse to meet with the president of the United States over something as significant as how we're going to fund the troops and all the other needs that are addressed by the spending decisions we make every year."
