SUITE SMELL OF SUCCESS: Corel has a sure-fire winner with its WordPerfect Suite 8

Packed with a bevy of new features, this package offers a number of good reasons to say goodbye to your tired old system and try out something new.
Corel has introduced a number of suite-wide enhancements that really increase the usability of the programs. Corel WordPerfect Suite 7 missed the mark with too much glitz and not enough direction. This version's simplified interface provides easy access to the features you need, right when you need them.
The context-sensitive Property Bar displays one of a series of toolbars. When you click on graphic, the appropriate tools and menus for other selections appear on screen. Competitors' suites have a similar function, but in Suite 8 these tools and menus conveniently disappear when attention shifts to another screen task. I quickly learned to rely on the Property Bar to provide access to needed tools.
The helper system called PerfectExpert is improved and easier to use. It is particularly valuable when you are using the spreadsheet component of the suite. When you are building an amortization table in Quattro Pro, for instance, the Perfect-Expert can take you through the often cumbersome task in a step-by-step sequence.
CorelCentral promises to add an important dimension to the suite. A jazzed-up Personal Information Manager combines E-mail with appointment-scheduling and voice-conferencing. A meeting request by E-mail from Kate, for instance, would be accepted and filed by CorelCentral.
