DJ Digital Island In Alliance With Sun Micro, Inktomi

SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)--Digital Island Inc. (ISLD) will invest up to $150 million to
deploy up to 5,000 S5n servers as part of an alliance with Inktomi Corp. (INKT) and Sun
Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) to expand the global content delivery network.

Sun Microsystems' S5n servers include Inktomi's Traffic Server and Content Delivery
Suite.

In a press release Wednesday, Digital Island said Sun Microsystems and Inktomi will
make investments in Digital Island.

Inktomi already has a stake in Sandpiper Networks, which Digital Island agreed in
October to acquire in a reported $630.5 million stock swap. Sun Microsystems'
investment is subject to government approval.

Digital Island's investment will help expand the capacity of its e-Business Content
Delivery Network, which consists of regionally located data centers, Sun Microsystems-
and Inktomi-based content distribution sites and an intelligent network.

Digital Island, Sun Microsystems and Inktomi will target network service providers for
co-location of new servers through joint marketing and channel programs. The servers
support interactive services over digital subscriber lines, cable, wireless and dialup.

Digital Island provides network services for globalizing electronic business applications.

Inktomi, Foster City, Calif., develops and markets scalable software for Internet
infrastructure and media companies.

Sun Microsystems, Palo Alto, Calif., provides hardware, software and services for the
Internet.
