There is another possible scenario here. Intc decided it needed to fundamentally redirect the company. (1) It was right the rambus will be needed in the future and generally right about the difficulty of implementing it. But it chose not to say so. (2) It moved a lot of resources to implementing its' net strategy but chose not to say so because its' traditional customer base, the box makers, get hosed in the process. (3) it continues to be extra nice to dell and vice versa because that is where a lot of server chips are going. (4) pc demand has taken off like no one anticipated and the evidence is in shortages all accross the board. Just another possible scenario.
