John, I agree that net appliances could win out but the capability to mirror high end functions as in hdtv or gourmet sound systems in the PC is going to wow the consumers of those. Granted, this isn't the lion's share of the market but it seeds innovation and leads the mass market so I am betting on the PC, in its' future form which will be a lot of processing power and, perhaps storage.
