Regarding critisism of Alan Greenspan:

Larry:

You make some good points about AG, but you have to admit that he has not restricted speculation in the market through changes in margin limits or other moves within the authority of the fed.

What's worse? Managing the money supply in good times or bad times? Fact is the fed has not screwed things up like in the past under the reign of Arthur Burns and that flake who followed him.

Certainly, the times have contributed to lower inflation including increased global competition and lower fuel prices. Productivity is more a minor factor in my opinion, unless you are counting the impact of corporate restructuring that has eliminated many high paying jobs and heightened the fear factor.

Scoreboard with Greenspan as head coach of the most powerful monetary policymaker in the world: Lowest interest rates since the 60's, a booming stockmarket, lowest unemployment since the 60's, and a rate of inflation that keeps seniors from complaining about the cost of living.

Most valuable player I'd say.....
