Canada Drillers Sued for Breach of Contract

By Jeffrey Jones
CALGARY (Reuters) - Texas-based oil driller Pride International Inc. (NYSE:PDE - news) launched a $500 million lawsuit against Canada's Plains Energy Services Ltd. (Toronto:PLA.TO - news) and Precision Drilling Corp. (Toronto:PD.TO - news) on Tuesday, claiming it signed a deal to buy Plains before Precision won with a richer bid.
For their part, Plains and Precision said they believed Pride's breach of contract suit, filed with a court in Harris County, Texas, was without merit.
``We certainly believed that we entered into an agreement and the same day (Plains) entered into an agreement with Precision,'' Pride chief executive Paul Bragg said from Houston.
