Microsoft insists donation didn't assist Defence deal against Corel

Software giant Microsoft Corp. donated $61,000 worth
of office software to the federal Liberal Party's Ottawa
office in 1996.

And an Opposition Reform MP wondered yesterday if
Microsoft's donation helped the giant company win a
$10-million software deal with the Department of
National Defence in 1996, edging out Ottawa-based
Corel Corp.

Microsoft Canada's regional manager in Ottawa, Bob
Tuttle, denied there was anything untoward about the
$61,000 contribution to the Liberals.

Interesting. Microsoft claims it won the National Defence
Department deal fair and square by offering the best
technology at the best price for Canadian taxpayers. Corel's
lower upgrade price didn't make a difference. Interesting...
