Not sure where you've been shopping, but HWP's mid and high-end PCs are shipping with DVD instead of plain CD-ROM. Same for CPQ and Sony. Mostly they seem to be in machines at the 1800+ pricepoint, though logically one should expect that they'll migrate into lower priced platforms in the next 6-8 months.

If you define "mainstream" as $1500 and lower, then DVD is not quite there. One more round of price cuts and it will be.
