That's 6 deaths per 100,000, which is ~50% of Traffic Fatalities in the USA !! ..... But we are not prepared to take that lower risk ?? .... So virtually the whole country has to stay at home, even though VERY FEW people in the USA who contract the Virus die from it per head of population ......

First of all, that is deaths so far. You are comparing deaths for an entire year to deaths for two months. And that is the first two months that the virus has had to spread around the country.

Second, the number of deaths has been substantially lowered by social distancing. If we remove that, how many more deaths will follow? How many deaths and infections have been prevented? If we try BAU, what would it be like with a disease this infectious? Do you believe that people would just soldier on, report to work if sick and be productive? One theory of the disease is that the more you are exposed to it, the worse it will get, in addition to your own immune system. If everyone goes back to work, the number of exposures will increase along with the viral load for each individual person.

How many hospitalizations would there be if we go to BAU? How many hospitals would be completely overwhelmed and unable to take care of other patients? I know someone who had an operation to take out and do a biopsy on a tumor postponed indefinitely because the tumor was small and allegedly not an emergency. Hospitals have been overwhelmed already. They would be even more overwhelmed if social distancing was not in effect.

It is silliness to use the statistics we have so far and extrapolate to an indefinite future. Heck, we don't even know how many people actually have the damned thing. The tests we are using not only give false positives but false negatives as well. And they take days to get actual results to boot! That 15 minute test that got a lot of publicity turns out to have been useless so far because apparently Abbot can't produce them in quantity--Each state has gotten 15 machines and enough tests to do 100 tests. That is for an entire state!

Wishful thinking that we can go back to BAU anytime soon without any severe consequences. No doubt Trump wants to do it and so do you. And maybe some governors in sparsely populated mostly rural states will try it. Maybe they will get away with. I doubt it. But we'll probably see. The temptations and the pressures to do it are clearly great.
