DW's "Couple of Announcements"
Announcement 1: News to be released very soon about a new operating company to provide systems integration solutions for CMGi and CMGi customers. The business has two components: a software tools component that does xml objects coding, and an implementation component that will provide services. The new CEO and 52 employees are already on staff and working. DW said he expects this company to be one of the larger operating companies owned by CMGi and that it could be ready to IPO in 2000.
Announcement 2: It's Official! CMGi will be letting CMGI shareholders participate in IPOs of their wholly owned subsidiaries. DW didn't want to pre-announce anything further just yet. Details very soon.
M and A Activity Andy Hajducky said the company will be picking up the pace in Merger and Acquisition activity, near-term and longer term. DW said they'll be doing 1 acquisition/month going forward.
Planet Direct (Majority owned affiliate) 675 ISPs have signed up to use Planet Direct. Growth rate is averaging over 1 new ISP per day. The company will be launching a major new release next week. It's their xml conversion. xml will make future enhancements to the service much quicker to develop and get released. Eight out of ten new ISPs signing up for services are using Planet Direct as their default home page.
@Ventures III About ¼ of the available funds have been invested.
@Ventures IV and Late Stage Crossover Funds @Ventures IV will be 2x-3x larger than @Ventures III. The @Ventures Late Stage Crossover fund will also be 2x-3x larger than @Ventures III.
iCast (majority owned affiliate) ZineZone and Magnitude Network have been folded in. DW mentioned four of the channels that will be available: comedy, sports, music, personal publishing. A special version of Activerse Ding! technology will be used called "iCaster". (The standard edition of Ding! allows any user-defined events to drive alert messages to the user. Mentioned how you can think up a song title and have iCaster find the song playing on the net and stream it directly to you. Can't wait to see the iCaster edition.)

nascent.com DW said Activerse and Nascent Technologies would be joining forces in some way to provide scalable email services. Nascent Technologies, Inc. develops value-added, carrier-class software that enables service providers to rapidly launch new services on the World Wide Web. The company's premier web-based messaging software, Mailspinnerâ„¢, has been licensed to Internet Service Providers, multinational corporations, universities and web sites around the world.
Overseas Investments DW said CMGi would be opening offices in Asia and Europe and looking for partners for investments for @Ventures IV, first in Asia and then in Europe.
AdSmart DW said they were the fastest growing web advertisement firm on the 'net.
NaviNet Didn't catch what the metric was, but something good is happening at NaviSite and according to DW it's "growing @ 20% per week, on average"!
Universal Learning Technology (@Ventures investment) Now have relationships with over 700 universities and colleges to provide next generation, interactive teaching and learning web-based applications.
