It just amazes me that there are so many conservatives who seemingly don't care if America goes to hell all around them, since they've got theirs. And then they moralize about making sure no one becomes dependent upon the welfare state, the safety net. But with companies like United Airlines going bankrupt and being allowed to dump their pension plans, the way employers are passing along the cost of health insurance to their employees, often at costs of many hundreds of dollars a month, and everything else that is costing more, like gasoline, so many Americans are hurting, and they are people who work very hard for a living, not the welfare underclass. And let's not forget all the long-term unemployed whose family wage jobs have gone abroad, never to be seen in America again.
A severe national depression? With the huge deficits we have, and the giant sucking sound of permanent job losses, it seems like only a matter of time . . . |
