There's nothing in the report that represents radically new thinking, as anyone who has been in the industry for a while can tell you. While there is no doubt that all of the things mentioned in the report are good and necessary, the report does convince me that Silknet represents a real threat. It particularly bothers me that there is no substantiation for the assertion that "...eService has given Silknet a definite market advantage - causing a desperate scramble among competitors to catch-up..." Some facts and figures would have increased the credibility of this report. Silknet hasn't shown up on my radar screen, and no one I know has bought Silknet over any of the major vendors. Having said that, one tries to keep an open mind and so I'll take a look at Silknet products, and make a few calls. If they are as good as Aberdeen seems to think, they will no doubt be exhibiting at the Help Desk Institute conference in San Jose, in early August. I'll check them out there too. Watch this space.
