i own a lot of stocks. i own a lot of oil, gas, defense, drug, foreign. i may bail out of oil and gas and defense. but, they have acted as a hedge. they are up - when other stocks are down. i have created my own mutual fund. i have so many i cannot follow them.
to answer your question-i also give you some i think are good long term. some are risky. arba, cet, chir, mot, pfe, twx, txn.
i own some garbage- which has survived. i own a lot of tech and telecom. i averaged down. (i didn't buy with nasdaq over 2200 on way up or down- and missed lots of upside.) unfortunately- a few went broke. i am way up now on amd, csco, rmbs, pcln, amzn- for example. i sell or sell part and therefore made a lot but not as much as if i had not sold any in qcom, hal and many others. i started this a couple of years ago- as i pay less than $10 a trade so i can sell 1/4 1/3 or 1/2 of big positions. since i don't know what i'm doing, i may sell some and keep some.
i own a lot of closed end funds. they trade at discount to net asset value. i hold long term, (reinvest dividends) or until discount practically disappears. i have foreign and domestic. but, only those that trade on u s exchange.
i looked at my current portfolio to draft this post. it doesn't refer to winners i sold completely except hal. for instance i don't mention igen and anik.
i already owned a lot of oil and gas. i had heard from many that oil was a bubble, like naz was. i bought apc and sold slb short. i have been up on the paired trade. i thought gas would do better than oil. |
