Yep, seen it many times. In religious sponsored nursing homes there usually are 3 ways to get in:
1. Give them EVERYTHING you have.
2. Pay monthly
3. Buy a lifetime contract

If you elect the first one, you may NOT have made any significant gifts to family members within the previous 3 years. Once, I was in the office when this old lady came in brought by her son and daughter in law. They explained this to them. The son and daughter in law says MOM you dont HAVE to go here, give US your home (that was her major asset) and YOU CAN LIVE THERE FOREVER and we will care for you. The administrator pointed out that if she does that she is excluded from option 1. Well, it wasnt two months later, the old lady was back, this time alone, in tears. She had done as her son had asked and they had BOOTED HER OUT, she had no place to go. I was a tearful situation, even I felt bad and I didnt even know the lady, but there was nothing that could be done. I guess she ended up in the county home. jdn
