At the time that Terri entered her present state of severe disability, Florida law did not define providing food and water as "extraordinary measures." The law was changed in 1999.

There is no reason to believe, factually OR legally, that she would have consented to removal of food and water.

We've all heard a lot of people say things like, "I wouldn't want to be a vegetable," or "if it comes time for me to die, I want to go peacefully, not be kept on life support." But nobody ever says, "I'd rather spend a couple of weeks in pain, dying of thirst and hunger, than (be on life support)(be a vegetable)."
