I agree that CPQ will have a positive effect on market acceptance, but primarily for the market leaders and standard makers. Mytec had a great opportunity to be out front, but for some reason they lost it.

I would not complain about red ink associated with a low cost device, if I knew that the red ink was to buy position in the market and market share. Red ink only bothers me when it is incurred without real company direction.

NRI was one of the first players in biometrics. They sold fingerprint systems to law enforcement and then branched out into the commercial arena. But I'm told that about 2 years ago they began to see the writing on the wall with the proliferation of biometric companies, so they re-invented themselves as a software company to build interfaces between popular applications and any biometric device. Therefore they will be successful no matter what biometric is adopted, whether fingerprint, retina or voice. It is a good strategy and they now have a real lead in their niche. One problem biometric companies have is developing these interfaces, since they are so busy with their own core technology. Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough (nor was my broker) to understand their strategy early enough, but then again, I'm not from the industry.

I would welcome a Mytec desk top unit, but I've seen no evidence of one in the making. Maybe you have better connections than I do. I didn't get invited to the open house.
