AOL signs Unilever, a major ad spender

By Eric Auchard

NEW YORK, July 1 (Reuters) - America Online Inc. and Unilever Plc (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: ULVR.L) said on Wednesday that Unilever had agreed to a three-year interactive advertising and marketing deal to flog scores of its popular consumer brands online.

Under the deal, as many as 100 Unilever brands -- spanning consumer categories from cleaning and personal care products to foods and beverages will receive prominent billing throughout the AOL service.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the companies said that the deal marks the single largest commitment to the interactive medium by any packaged goods marketer.

The deal is significant for America Online and the Internet advertising market at large because consumer goods advertisers like Unilever rank among the biggest spenders in the world.

......

Waiting for more financial information to "leak".
