don't think you would be much fun at parties. At least not my kind of fun.

You don't know me personally and yet you would jump to conclusions. Says a lot about your credibility, doesn't it?

For one thing, you will do well to understand that
my persona on SI is not necessarily my usual persona elsewhere.

Yes, I was being forthright there. OK so that makes it OK... like German forthrightness concerning Jews in the 30's and 40's. It does speak to your credibility.

Irrelevant! That's a non-sequitur.

Yes well that particular case has been going on for what ? 8 years ?

What diff does it make? Muslim enmity against the US was already manifest for several years before 9/11/2001. Without a doubt, the defeat of the US in Somalia, the failure of the US to score against the Muslims for bombing the US Embassies in Africa, bombing the Cole have definitely emboldened Muslims worldwide against the US. Why split hairs here? I was still right after all.

You talk of something fermenting and being fomented in Malaysia that will blow up like a time bomb on non-Muslims with disastrous consequences. That will not happen if UMNO (United Malays National Organisation) remains in power and I am quite certain it will ever remain in power. If your pessimistic scenario comes to pass, then too bad! And violence, mayhem and death will likely occur. But as has always happened in nature, equilibrium will be re-established, sooner or later. I know this makes me sound rather callous. But, to be sure, that is the reality.

As Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher had said a while back, The world (or Nature) is ever becoming. In other words, everything in nature is inexorably undergoing change and ever evolving. So, if events should occur to upset the present equilibrium, that is in the natural scheme of things in general. Why always insist in maintaining the old order, especially when change is an immutable law of nature. As Lord Tennyson had said about 200 years ago, "The old order changeth yielding place to new; Lest one good custom should corrupt the world."

The US errs badly in insisting that what is good for America is good for everyone else. The US will do well to take stock of Lord Tennyson's lines above. The US will do well to realise that what is good for America is not necessarily good for others.

Apparently you think all is Hunky Dory
there or brush off a rebuttal by saying... I have not bee there for a long time.. You can't have it both ways...

Oh really, but you misinterpreted my remark. I was suggesting to you a far more reliable way of getting information about Malaysia ---- get it from a Muslim who actually lives there and knows the current affairs of the region. Sorry, but you are barking up the wrong tree again!

Whenever I say subservient government media, I am referring to the media in general in the US. Gwynne Dyer is an independent journalist based in London.

Bush once tried to lecture Jiang Ze-Min with regard to China's record of human rights Yes but we are talking about Muslims now.. As you like to say... Barking up the wrong tree...

Just how many times must you be wrongheaded? My remark wrt Jiang was prefaced by a "by the way". Since when did you last change your glasses?

If the couple involved is pragmatic enough Your solution is to run away and the basically it the US fault that the oil rich Arabs do not help the Palestinians...

You have a twisted logic or a warped mind. I guess that should not be surprising, especially when you have a self-persecution complex, eh?

Look! Just as the Amoeba, the one-celled creature that it is knows well enough to ever flow towards a more hospitable environment, so too should that multi-celled couple do likewise.

I believe that the US and Israel have devolved into rogue-states and they are primarily responsible for the slew of problems we see in the Middle East and in Muslim countries elsewhere. From all indications they apparently believe that turning non-Muslims against Muslims, terrorising the Muslims and humiliating them is the only way to subdue them. From my perspective, that is the wrong tack, and both the US and Israel will pay dearly for it in the long run, even though the Muslims are not as technologically advanced...........

Lehitraot!
