Ed Bott of ZDNet recently pointed out how, a decade ago, people predicted the death of the PC, just for events to show that the desktop PC was still alive and well. It is true. And the PC will live for now. But I would say that what is under the hood is transforming from a user-centric operating system and the PC to a desktop-based cloud model as a service (DaaS).
In a meeting at one of my clients today (large State Agency) they were discussing upgrading existing PCs vs minimal laptops to virtual desktops. This is an organization that is about a decade behind state of the art and they are at least thinking about this.
