I often think I have spent enough time outside Finland..
Education and tax cuts and evasion brain drain is a serious problem, but it is improving.
EU is working on the dilemma of London in terms of tax evasion, and it seems the origins of western "brain drain" (Thatcher's UK) is waking up after Rover was sold for 12 Sterling.
Personally I have enjoyed the increase of russian names in Linux code, the internet and on Nokia, finnish university name lists, etc.
Not to forget the indian, etc influx and hopefully return of brain power from and to many other nations and companies.
Ilmarinen.
P.S. Most finns return to Finland when it is time for the kids to start school, those who do it later on face the task of the kids needing supporting classes to catch up. (US to finnish schools)
P.P.S. Private schools banned in the 70s, but it takes tax money to keep public schools going, as well as the local high paid jobs to pay the (progressive) taxes to pay for those schools. (I'm using the US definitions, not the UK)
P.P.P.S Basic idea that private schools can solve the problems at the input, public cannot, but if not enough national money for everyone, one has to start somewhere. |
