Obama was not executing the laws on the books. When Trump made DACA an issue, what he was doing was returning the Executive Branch to doing what they are supposed to do, which is to execute the laws on the books. The fact is that the Dreamers are not here legally. Obama was choosing to not execute the law when he gave them a dispensation. Now, we all know that this was no innocent thing on Trump's part. Like all good businessmen and politicians, he was creating leverage to get something he wants, namely the Wall and tighter, merit based immigration laws. I think it was clever and if it gets us what Trump wants on immigration, then I say more power to him.

The sad part of all of this is that the Dreamers are real people, who we need to take pity on and give them a permanent home and citizenship. I want them here and I hate the uncertainty they are having to go through. If it were me, though, I'd be even tougher. I want a law that says that if you are an immigrant couple and you come here to have your baby, then that baby does not get automatic citizenship. That will put an end to situations like what the Dreamers have had to go through. We are the only country that lets new born tourist babies to become citizens automatically, through our loopholed laws. It's time to address root causes.
